Marathon is awesome… but it could be better! The sounds still make me feel like I'm sitting in front of a souped up Pathways. Here is a binary potion that is not only a cure but will rock your socks off!
First, yes we tricked you… The readme file is the patchfile but since you never read me, why should I read you? In any case, double click on the readme file to launch the patcher.
Some Trivia:
• Some sounds were taken and modified from "Hardcore Sounds" by Frank.
• A lot of sounds were imported and mixed in their true 16bits from various effect CDs.
• Most sounds were amplified, distorted and generally messed with using SoundEdit 16.
• Frosted Flakes were used as a substitute for caffeine to keep us up all night.
Cool Feature:
Marathon looks for a group of five sounds when an effect should be played and chooses one randomly (empirically proven…). In short: let's say gunshot is snd#1200. Marathon tries to use #1200-1204 but will not complain as long as there is at least one. In the original sound file only a few effects use this since the sound file would otherwise probably be three or four times as large. In this patch we added a few variations that are not that obvious but adds a lot of feeling.
Nuff' said. Crank up the volume and kick some butt.
